Lisa Redfern Website Update

My client, Lisa Redfern has asked me to update her website/Interactive DVD-ROM to keep up with her change in workload. I have taken into consideration last year’s workload and I had a phone call from Lisa this morning asking when I can actually do this for her. I have arranged this in conjunction with my Year 2 work experience and I will be starting as of today.

I have to go to London this weekend and talk through the previous website and what Lisa will be expecting the updated website to look like. From the phone conversation I am under the impression that Lisa will be wanting a little more content such as Information on the different services she offers, and she said she would like to see some more images throughout the site. Today I am focusing on the design of the images, and looking at what I have already produced and seeing what I can suggest for improvement. I am researching the other existing websites/homepages that Spiritual Mediums have on the net and looking at the most appropriate ways to accomplish this. I have drawn up 2 ideas for the new website and I am about to start sketching a further 3 more ideas so I have 5 in total. I am then going to meet up with Lisa on Saturday and talk through my ideas, her ideas and further content that will be necessary.



Day 2 "Website Update"

I spoke to Lisa over the phone yesterday evening and she gave me a quick run down of what she wanted updated on her website. We spoke about Photoshop, and re creating an "information page". Lisa also wants an additional 5 more pages to her website.

- A new information page
- A more detailed contact page (such as email link)
- A page for "Reiki Healing"
- A revamp of images


One of the objects of today is to change the text on most of the pages and Lisa says she might want a page for people’s opinions, such as existing clients feedback on Lisa's services.

Lisa wants homepage buttons on her site, and more images of angels and spiritual aspects. I suggested to my client that we could incorporate a video within her site. Lisa loved the idea, and gave me an idea of having footage of Lisa live in action, performing readings and within her Wednesday circle this is where she has 5 of her regular clients sit in a circle and meditate.

We could put this in as footage, which gives new clients an idea of how Mediumship works. Today I am focusing on the new pages, making new buttons, and possibly putting this together again using Flash rather then Dreamweaver. As I have already produced one new page I will be looking at the existing pages and re vamping them to a higher standard


Day 3 “Website Update”

Today I finalized all the new website buttons. One of the tasks of today was to collect together a few possible ideas/designs and to show them to my client. I will be meeting Lisa later on today to discuss what designs to use and for any more idea on what else will be needed for the site.

After showcasing my designs to Lisa we decided between us on what button design to use. Lisa decided that she wanted the feel of the site to be warm and inviting and she wanted to have an input into the colour design for the site. Lisa decided to go with the purple button design and I feel that this would be a smart move, as so to keep the feel of the site in line with the work it promotes. Lisa’s choice in buttons helped me finalise the design, and I am now able to import the buttons into Flash and using these will make the website more clearer, and easier to navigate. So for the rest of the day I will be importing all the new buttons into flash and then emailing the demo page to my client for review.



Day 4

Today I redesigned the “Reiki healing page”. The main problems with the original page were that there weren’t enough images on the page, and my client felt that it lacked the information required. I am about to redesign the entire page and keep similar themes but add more information and also links to other Reiki pages so the user can learn more about the healing process. I am going to research into other Reiki healers and link them onto the website.

I have just received confirmation that my client wants more navigation throughout the website and also that at the present time my client cannot afford to put the website onto the web so we will be working on this as more of an interactive DVD-ROM. I have designed the final buttons today and I have updated all of the buttons throughout the DVD. Tomorrow I will be meeting with my client for a talk about additional features and the work I have produced so far. I will be taking with me screen shots and print outs to show my client.

Day 5

Today I met with my client and showed her all my work so far. Lisa was pleased with what I had come up with and we discussed putting the website up at a later date. Lisa is happy to still use this product as an interactive DVD-ROM that she can present to all new and existing clients of hers and she told me she has received a positive feedback response to the DVD-ROM and is now gaining more work from it.
We discussed how the DVD would look and how it will be improved from last year. I also spoke to my client about using flash rather than Dreamweaver because I feel I have more confidence using Flash now and Lisa was happy as long as the product was complete. I am aiming to finish the DVD for around Middle May time and so far I am on schedule for the final day. From today I also want to look at the Aromatherapy site again and decided what elements I am going to keep and some that I am going to discard. This will all be clear to me by the end of the day and I will be able to get working on this as of tomorrow.


Day 6

As mentioned yesterday I am going to be redesigning the Aromatherapy page adding less detail to the background, as I felt that there was too much ‘clutter’ on the page, which takes away the information and blends it back into the background. I have decided on this page that I will be changing the background completely and making it more simpler and easier to read. I am deciding on whether I am going to be adding more images to this page because I already have a few on the page and once again I don’t want to make the page look cluttered so I am going to go away and sketch up a few designs for this page and work on putting this all onto an online blog for review. Also one thing I should have done is put this on a blog day by day but I chose to use word because I didn’t have full access to Internet everyday. This would have benefited my client because she could have kept up with what I was doing day by day, but I kept her informed by phoning her every other day plus our weekly meetings.


Day 7

Today I decided that I would spend the day redesigning the Aromatherapy page as I spent yesterday researching and looking at details. I have sketched up 2 ideas and I am spending this morning designing this all up in Photoshop.

Now that I have designed the new page in Photoshop, I put this into Flash and joined it to the home page. All pages link back to the home page and previously I had lacked the navigation required. I decided this is the key element that I am focusing on and I made sure all the buttons had coding and work sufficiently when published. I am spending the evening working on putting everything into flash and making the arrangements with my client for this Friday to meet with Lisa and to show her the product in Flash.


Day 8

I have a meeting with Lisa tomorrow and I am trying to get together everything in Flash so that I have something to show. I am working on al pages, one by one. The problems I am facing are the size of the screen as brought it to college and using a Mac and crossing platforms has become annoying as I have PC at home. So I am spending the day correcting all the minor problems and by the end of today I am going to burn a demo copy to give to Lisa. A few other problems I am facing today mainly concern the graphics I have used. Firstly many of the graphics have became blurry and I don’t know if this is to do with Flash but I have decided that tomorrow before my meeting with Lisa I will need to redesign all the graphics using Illustrator so that they are more clearer and professional looking.

Day 9

I have a meeting with Lisa this afternoon at 4pm and I am spending most of this morning redoing all the graphics as I had mentioned yesterday. I am looking at taking pictures of candles in a composition because when this finally goes onto the web I cannot use the picture because it was from goggle ‘images’. I have to take some photos and scan them into Photoshop and after I have done all this I will be importing to Flash and burning a copy for my client. I have 4 hours to complete all this before my meeting. Hopefully from today I can start tying up all loose ends to this product and spend the last few days “tidying up” my work.

Day 10

Yesterday I had a meeting with Lisa my client and I showed her all the new changes in the DVD. Lisa mentioned to me about video and the video showing Lisa in action but we have decided against this mainly for time saving but also Lisa feels that it wont benefit the client because there should be no expectation from her work. So we have scrapped this idea and are now going with what we’ve already got. I told Lisa that I will be spending the next few days “cleaning up” the DVD-ROM and she is happy with the way the product is looking. I am going to spend the next few days on the look and feel of the website/DVD-ROM and see what kind of improvement can be made.

Day 11

Today I looked at every page of the DVD in flash; publishing it to see what parts I could alter. I went through every page and wrote down what I liked to keep and what I didn’t, and with the aspects I didn’t feel worked I corrected the size, shape or aspect of the problem and altered it to fit. Primarily I wanted to just scour through and make small changes but now I have seen what I have done I am going to alter one of the pages because the font has either been changed or I have made an error somewhere along the lines. So today I am going to concentrate on the typography.

Day 12

Now I have altered all the font text, I am going to sharpen all the images one more time, as they weren’t as clear when I published in Flash. I am not going to spend too long on these as Lisa is expecting a product at the end of this week and although I am not completely happy with the product I am going to try my best to make it look more professional and that is the aim of today; neatening up everything that still needs to be done.

I have now sharpened all the images and it took less time than I anticipated so I am going to makes sure all buttons are in the right places in Flash. Earlier on, I changed font colours again because I altered the background and you could no longer see the white text. I am going to work on the buttons for now as some of the coding seems to be incorrect and then I am going to sign off till tomorrow.


Day 13

Now I have properly coded all the buttons, sharpened the images and background I now just have to find the links I will be using and put them into the correct page. I have found 2 links for each area of discussion and I am going to be making two copies, one website and the other interactive DVD and only use the links for the website one. I am now reviewing my work and I will be phoning my client tomorrow to arrange a final meeting.

Day 14

I have now met with my client and gave a presentation of the product. Lisa is extremely impressed with the end result and I am now waiting on my client to buy the necessary CD's to burn 50 copies for her. Lisa has kept me in charge of the work and will call me for more when she is short. I am about to research into website hosting and how much it will all cost because my client is interested in putting it all on the web within the next few months but due to financial troubles this will not be happening in the next few weeks. I am going to be needed again to host the site and this is something that I am going to need to know more about. I have given my client 2 copies of the DVD-ROM and 1 copy of the website. The only major difference between the two is the Internet links as they are not necessary on the DVD. Today I am going to start putting all the written work into an online blog and upload that later on today. I am going to send my client the link to my blog so she can review it.
